Even Moms Need Support
In October 2024, I became OFFICIALLY certified in prenatal yoga! I never thought about getting my prenatal cert until I was pregnant and had my daughter. I don’t know how many moms out there felt so alone throughout their pregnancy and postpartum. And I noticed there is a very limited amount of resources for moms to feel like they’re part of a community, especially here in the South Bay Area. Options are pretty limited, and the few that are out there aren’t the most accommodating in terms of scheduling and the commute.
So what do we do? Well, one of my goals for 2025 is to provide yoga classes which are more inclusive for different groups. Last year, I was FINALLY able to put my RCYT to good use by teaching Family Yoga at Villa Sport. This was such a rare gem of an opportunity, and I hope to be able to provide more this year. This year, we are also planning on providing pop up classes of prenatal yoga and Mommy and Me yoga with the sole intention of accommodating more moms and their babies AND creating a welcoming community for new moms. No judgement, no comparison of developmental milestones, none of that negativity. It’s just solely focused on helping mothers feel comfortable in their skin, whatever their story may be. It’s about ensuring that you know YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
The baby blues hit me pretty hard, and the one thing I wanted was a friend. Your husband or partner can only get you so far. But, to have someone close by who knows or can relate to you just check in would have been so appreciative. Even a simple text can work wonders. But all I had was pure silence from the person I thought was my best friend. Any attempt to reach out for help or guidance went completely ignored. I never want to see another mother struggle with this loneliness and constant worry of being the worst mother in the world. I want us to check in on each other. It’s more than creating this new life. It’s a traumatic event which can take years of healing, and we as women and mothers need to be there for each other.
I’m really excited to see this dream come to fruition at Villa Sport. Stay tuned, my friends!
